Abstract
Exclusion is a pushing manipulation of organs for making hidden organ visible or enlarging workspace. Improper manipulation has possibility of danger. The authors propose a surgical simulator especially for organ exclusion with FEM-based soft tissue deformation and multi-finger force feedback device. Interactive stress visualization supports understanding of stress concentration by manipulations. Developed system allows interactive manipulation of organ by fingers with stress visualization. Simultaneous contact by four fingers was possible with the developed system. An experiment of training trial suggested effectiveness of stress visualization to lower stress concentration. Subjective evaluation by surgeons showed high potential of the simulator for training use.
