Abstract
This paper reports modeling of conceptual design process as the basis for 3DCAD. Recently, 3DCAD has become widely used in many companies. Originally CAD should be developed for design process, but sometimes designers are forced to suit it because of its restriction from an information processing. It seems that CAD is filtering and biasing design process. Therefore we have tried to analyze a design process from the viewpoint of 3DCAD. Firstly, this paper describes the summary of conceptual design. Next, it break down the basic element of mechanism to "tree", "configuration", "shape", and discuss about their thinking pattern, way of validation, restriction from an information processing. As an example, three practical processes are shown.
