Abstract

“Design thinking” and “system thinking” are developed in the fields of design and systems engineering respectively. However, to address the complicating product design process, integration of “design thinking” and “system thinking” is demanded in recent years. Therefore, this study aims to propose a design process which integrates “design thinking” and “system thinking”. Firstly, 127 design methods were classified into 11 types by clarifying correspondence to processes recommended in the systems engineering field. Secondly, a set of the design methods ware selected to cover as many processes as possible. Lastly, the selected design methods were applied to a design case of reclining wheelchair. As a result, the functions that consider stakeholders comprehensively were extracted, which were not extracted when design methods were applied arbitrarily. This suggests the applicability of the design process using the proposed classification.
