Abstract

Recently, HVAC systems such as room air condoners are highly needed to be designed with high energy saving performance. In recent development of fin-and-tube heat exchangers, CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) is used for visualizing the airflow pattern on fin surface and refrigeration circuit simulator is also employed for evaluating enthalpy change of refrigerant flow along tubes (pipes). However 1D refrigeration circuit simulation model doesn’t reflect actual 3D heat exchanger geometry and complicated airflow pattern, it cannot estimate the interaction between fins and pipes precisely. In this paper, we proposed an integrated method of 3D CFD and 1D refrigeration circuit simulator. We also apply this new method to practical indoor unit comparing the experimental result of heating mode operation. The calculation result in total heat capacity was good agreement with the experimental data and could reveal the negative thermal interaction of two pipes via thermal conduction quantitatively.
