Abstract

This paper proposes a computer-aided style design for industrial products in an immersive design space named Editable Reality (ER). The ER system “virtualizes” real objects by using 3D reconstruction technique, and enables to edit the geometry of the virtualized objects interactively by using 3D modeling method. We developed a prototype of the ER system by integrating two sub-systems of solid modeling based on 3D-CAD and visualization based on mixed reality. ER provides a quasi-realistic design environment in which a designer feels as if he or she manipulates the geometry and location of real products in the real world through a video see-through type head mounted display.
