Abstract

The Real World is changing rapidly. Yesterday, its changes were smooth, so we could differentiate them and predict the future. Now they change sharply, so we cannot predict the future. And our living space is expanding rapidly and booundries disappear and it is now open space. The greatest change is materials are getting softer and softer with the rapid progress of material engineering. Therefore, we could identify a product with our eyes and even from a distance, but today we need to directly interact with it and "feel" with using all body senses. In mechanical field, we have been processing products as hardware, but today they become software. So we need to adapt to its flexible behavior. Thus, somatic sensation or proprioception becomes increasingly important. This talk describes why somatic sensation is important and how we should make the most of it. Practial solution is given in another talk in this D&S 2023 conference.
