Abstract
Long-period earthquake ground motion may amplify the response of high-rise buildings. When elevator rope resonates with the response, the displacement will be large and equipment in the shaft may be damaged. Recently, rope analysis methods to simulate rope vibration with an earthquake ground motion have been developed. However, detailed simulation requires much time, actual displacement may exceed damaging level before the simulation concludes. In this paper, we discussed the threshold of rope displacement and the acceptable time for estimation and proposed some methods which simplify the analysis of building response and rope vibration. Comparing them regarding the accuracy and required time of estimation, it was revealed that simplification of building response simulation effectively reduces simulating time without crucial loss of accuracy.
