Abstract
Escalator fall accidents occurred in the Great East Japan Earthquake. It is conceivable that the non-fixed part was detached due to interlaminar deformation more than expected. Based on the fall accidents, the quake-resistance standard was reconsidered. In the new quake-resistance standard, interlaminar deformation assumed during earthquakes was set larger than before. Therefore, it is conceivable that the escalator receives compressive load from the building. When large interlaminar deformation occurs, the escalator truss may greatly deform and may cause troubles in safety. Also, the structure of the escalator truss has no fixed provision. So, each company has a different structure. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate how the escalator truss behaves due to compressive load. In this study, elasto-plastic analysis was carried out using the finite element method with reference to the compression experiment of the actual sized escalator truss. Even with a simple analytical model, it was confirmed that the deformation mode and reaction force can be reproduced roughly.
