Abstract

Numerical simulations of the flow past airfoils with dimples or serrations were performed by using OoenFOAM. LES with the WALE model was used to analyze the details of the flow structure and transient response around the airfoils. For the analysis conditions, the Reynolds number is set to 1.0×106 for the analysis of the dimpled airfoil and 1.0×105 for the analysis of the serrated airfoil cascade. The angle of attack was varied from 0° to 30° for the analysis of the dimpled airfoil and from 0° to 20° for the analysis of the serrated airfoil cascade. The results showed that the lift coefficient of the dimpled airfoil was smaller than that of the normal wing up to an angle of attack of 25° before the stall, however, it was 10% larger at the angle of attack of 30° after the stall. As for the flow structure past the airfoils cascade, the wake generated by the serrated airfoil shows no difference that by normal airfoil.
