Abstract
Principle and state of the art algorithm of the particle image velocimetry (PIV) was introduced to review the overall methodology of the technique. First, the hardware instruments such as illumination, image sensors and timing controller were explained, and then several projection models of the images onto the sensors and several algorithms for detection of particle image displacement with high-accuracy were mentioned. Some results of advanced technique such as stereo or three-dimensional PIV has been shown.
