Abstract
This paper describes The quality of natural things including trees, grass, and soil, and laser speckle patter as the background patter for the background-oriented schlieren method (BOS). The images of natural things and laser speckle pattern were examined with crosscorrelation function to compare with random-dots pattern which axe widely used as a background pattern for the BOS. The results showed that, around interrogation window size of 10, most of the patterns indicated similar value of 1/σ^2, which represents quality of background.
