Abstract
When a cylinder is located in a uniform flow, vortices are developed from the surface of the object and separated. As a result, the cylinder can be oscillated due to the pressure difference around the object. In particular,if the Strouhal number of the vortices and the natural frequency of the object coincide with each other, the lock-in phenomenon will be appeared, consequently that may cause object destruction because of the large vibration. The objective of the present study is to suppress the flow-induced vibration by using elastic wall on the surface of the object. Then, the oscillatory characteristics of the elastic cylinder are investigated with the flowfield around the cylinder by flow visualization and numerical simulation.
