Abstract
Experimental results capturing the motion of a bubble rising in a hydrophobically modified alkali-soluble associative(HASE) polymer solution is presented. The non-Newtonian liquid is made up of 1.8 vol% HASE polymer solution, which are adjusted to pH = 7.0 by adding a sodium hydroxide solution. The dynamic motion of a bubble rising in the HASE polymer solution is experimentally observed using a high-speed video camera.Depending on the bubble size, rising bubbles with very unique trailing edges are observed, regardless of small Deborah number conditions. The peculiar bubble dynamics, with a focus on the bubble shape, are are discussed based on experimental observations.
