Abstract
Magnetic Fluid(MF) is a kind of functional fluid that their rheological properties change with the application of magnetic field.MF consists of nano size particles of ferrite or magnetite, surfactant and liquid based water or oil.Magnetic particles of MF under magnetic field form clusters of magnetic particles. The direction of the cluster is parallel to that of the magnetic field.Cluster formation in MF increases the viscosity and flow resistance under stronger magnetic field intensity.Existence of hysteresis and anisotropy is known as ultrasonic character of MF under magnetic field. However, the effect of the high pressure on the cluster formation in MF has not been investigated yet. Then,we studied ultrasonic propagation properties of a magnetic fluid under high pressure. As a result, ultrasonic propagation velocity of MF decreases under high pressure.
