Abstract
Thermal response analysis of a light-weight ablator coupled with radiating flow-field analysiswas carried out. Pyrolysis-gas flow inside the light-weight ablator, which has relatively high porosity, should show characteristics different from that inside a traditional heavy ablator. Moreover, the effect of pyrolysis-gas flow is considered to be large in the lightweight ablator. Therefore, in the thermal response analysis, the pyrolysis-gas flow inside the ablator was calculated in detail. For the calculation condition, the flight environment of Hayabusa capsule was used. The results showed multi-dimensional aspects for the pyrolysis-gas flow and thus the detailed analysis such as used in this paper is essential for the analysis of a light-weight ablator.
