Abstract
Performance of a straight-bladed vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) in skewed flow had been measured by changing the direction of the rotational axis relative to the direction of the main stream of a wind tunnel jet. The self-starting torque characteristics were deteriorated with increasing the inclination angle. Although maximum torque coefficient increased at wide range of inclination angle of -30 to 25 degrees, the variation as a function of the inclination angle was not symmetrical against the 0 degree. Increase in maximum power coefficient was observed between 0 and 20 degrees when inclining the rotational axis downstream.
