Abstract
The aim of this investigation is to clarify effects of aerodynamic noise control with the dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma actuator (PA) over the cascade of flat plates. The sound and velocity fields of flow around the cascade were measured with a low noise wind tunnel. The experiments were carried out at flow velocity from 5 m/s to 20 m/s by the expanded model of a front grille of automobile for basic research. The results showed aerodynamic noise from the cascade can be controlled with PA. The effect of noise reduction depended on the applied voltage and frequency of PAs. Moreover, the peak frequency becomes lower when the PAs were driven. As a result, the phase-lock of the shedding of the vortices from neighboring plates was weakened, and the acoustic resonance therefore did not occur. It indicated that the PAs are useful devices to control of aerodynamic noise.
