Abstract

Magnetic fluids are a kind of magnetic suspensions in which nano-sized magnetic particles are stably dispersed in a proper carrier liquid such as water. Due to the Brown force, the magnetic suspension is sensitive to a magnetic field like a liquid state. When non-magnetic bodies are placed into the magnetic fluid and are exposed to a non-uniform magnetic field, the magnetic buoyancy force act on the non-magnetic bodies. When the water-based magnetic fluid is used as an electrolyte, the gas bubbles generated on the surface of the electrodes are ejected from the surface by applying the magnetic field, resulting in the water electrolysis enhancement. In the present study, the effect of the magnetic field intensity on the water electrolysis was investigated using the chronoamperometry measurements. The results showed that the electro-current density is enhanced when the intensity of the magnetic field increases.
