Abstract

In order to shorten the startup process of the hybrid rocket, a cavity was provided in the solid fuel and ignited in this groove to propagate the flame along the groove. By changing the aspect ratio of the groove, the temperature distribution and the velocity distribution in the groove were investigated, experimentally and numerically. From these results, the mechanism of the flame stabilization and increasing the flame propagation speed by the cavity was considered. High temperature gas generated in the cavity stayed in the vicinity of the upstream- wall, and it was effective for increasing the flame propagation speed when the aspect ratio was larger than 1.
