Abstract
Numerical results obtained from the thermo-elasto-plastic stress analysis of steel subjected to high frequency induction heating are presented. In high frequency induction heating, generation of heat is produced depending on the hysteresis loss and the eddy current one. The eddy current loss is consumed in the region of the current penetration depth according to the skin effect of high frequency as a special feature of induction heating. Mechanical and thermal properties of steel are also considered to be temperature dependent. As the applying this heating method to surface quenching of steel, the results are effectively used to determine the hardening depth
