Abstract
The purpose of this study is to confirm the effectiveness of symplectic time integrator, which has a good property of well-preserving Hamiltonian of system, in the discrete vortex method. The considered problem is two-dimensional Karman vortex shedding around a square cylinder. It is found from the numerical analysis that the symplectic integrator, the 4th order Gauss method, is superior to the 2nd order Euler method used in the previous study with respect to the preservation of Hamiltonian, lift coefficient and spectrum of vortex shedding.
