Abstract
Ignition and combustion characteristics vary depending on the combination of fuels in dual fuel HCCI. In this study, the chemical interactions of two fuels with different reactivity were investigated. Experiments were performed on a single cylinder research engine fueled with different fuel combinations of methane, toluene, I-octane as the main fuel, and DME, n-heptane as high reactivity fuel. Numerical analysis based on the elementary chemical reaction model was also conducted. As the result, it was found that higher pressure rise could be controlled by using two kinds of fuels that have larger difference in oxidation temperature. In addition, it was found that heat release in low temperature reaction is depending on the presence or absence of alkene production path along with differences in reactivity with OH radicals between the two fuels.
