Abstract
We have developed a small and thin maglev ventricular assist device which enables to implant under the thorax muscle layer. Two radial degrees of freedom of a levitated impeller and its rotation are actively controlled by electromagnets constructed on a single stator. Cascade pump structure is adopted in order to make the device thinner. We have improved the cascade pump by using a computational fluid dynamics analysis, we produced the new pump. The pump head is increased by 13%, negative pressure is reduced by 10% in the analysis. The pump performance was evaluated with newly developed pump. Head pressure improved by 6% in the 2 L/min, 2000 rpm.
