Abstract
The siphon phenomenon is widely used for the transportation system of water and it is very economical and easy on the environment because the natural energy is only used for the power source of the transportation system. In the present paper, the feature of a siphon phenomenon induced by a water jet was experimentally investigated using a visualization technique and a pressure measurement. To clarify the influence of the siphon tube configuration, five types of orifice was prepared. For the occurrence of the siphon phenomenon, it is not necessary to be filled with water in whole siphon tube and the formation of the negative pressure region inside the siphon tube is important factor. It is clearly that a long type of orifice is effective to induce the siphon phenomenon.
