Abstract
Vortex induced vibration is caused by the fluid interaction behind a circular cylinder. The flow resistance, acoustic noise, and flow-induced vibration are triggered by this phenomenon. In order to control this phenomenon, the aim of the present study is to suppress the vortex shedding generated from a circular cylinder attached spherical rings. In this paper, the flow behavior in the wake and the drag coefficients are measured by the hot-wire anemometer and three-components balance. To observe the flow structure, the phase averaged velocity is calculated by the conditional sampling method in the wake. As a result, the drag coefficients decrease due to the enhancement of the velocity recovery behind these rings.
