Abstract

Annular fuel is a new type fuel with an innovative structure, and it is found to significantly increase the power density while maintaining or improving the safety margin. In this work, the multiphysics models of annular U3Si2 fuel equipped with FeCrAl cladding are implemented based on CAMPUS-ANNULAR code, which is developed to modeling the performance of annular fuel. Firstly, the material properties and the structure of annular fuel are introduced. Then the CAMPUS-ANNULAR code is used to investigate the annular fuel performance of the U3Si2-FeCrAl fuel-cladding combination under normal operating and LOCA conditions. Furthermore, the fuel performance of U3Si2-FeCrAl system is compared with that of solid fuel and the annular fuel equipped with UO2-Zircaloy system. The results show that the fuel performance is found to be effectively improved by using annular fuel under normal operating and LOCA conditions. Besides, the performance of' the annular fuel equipped with U3Si2-FeCrAl system is found to be better than that of the annular UO2-Zircaloy system under normal operating condition. However, the performance of annular fuel equipped with UO2Zircaloy system is found to be better than that of annular fuel equipped with the combination of U3Si2 fuel and FeCrAl cladding under the LOCA condition.
