Abstract
Construction of 600MW coal fired unit has been successfully completed at the J-Power's Isogo Thermal Power Station, Yokohama city, Japan. Existing 265MW×2 units were required to operate till new No.1 unit completion and the construction must be made in limited area of the power station. As countermeasure for reduction of NO_x emission, and expanding demand of electric power, this project was executed with advanced technologies. To cater for the limited site area, IHI tower-type boiler is applied due to its compact layout and suitable erection procedure. Although this type of replacement is the first in Japan, IHI performed the project with suitable and proven technologies. In order to save energy resource and to reduce CO_2 emission, Ultra Super Critical steam condition boiler (hereinafter as USC boiler) is the recent global requirement to improve thermal efficiency. This Isogo New No.1 unit is one of the most advanced USC boilers with 27.48MPa, 605℃/613℃ at boiler outlet, as the highest in Japan.
