Abstract
The left-right fuel rich-lean burner is now widely employed in China to burn the low rank coals, with high efficiency but low NOx emissions. The fuel/air mixture is separated horizontally into a fuel-rich and a fuel-lean stream. The fuel-rich steam is located on the side facing the high-temperature flame and the fuel-lean stream is injected between the fuel-rich stream and the waterwall in the tangentially fired furnace, the slagging and fouling resistance can be expected. The diffusion characteristics of the paralleled fuel-rich and fuel-lean jet flows have been investigated in this work. A fiber optic probe was employed to measure the solid concentration in the paralleled left-right fuel rich-lean burner flow, the experimental results are presented which indicate that the fuel-rich stream and the fuel-lean strean will not diffuse together soon after leaving the burner though the two streams are adjacent together, leading to better ignition and combustion characteristics of the pulverized coal than with a traditional burner.
