Abstract
IHI has been working on the development of pressurized molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC). MCFC has the property of high efficiency and low emission of pollutants. The 300kW-class MCFC power generation system is being developed as the small distributed power source. As a part of the national project of the MCFC research and development in Japan, we designed and manufactured the 300kW-class MCFC power plant in 2002. Using this experience of plant design, we installed another two 300kW-class MCFC power plants. These plants started operation in 2003. For commercial MCFC plan of IHI, we are going to develop the 300kW-class MCFC power generating system and will entry the distributed resources market. And in the near future, we will commercialize 1.5∿7MW MCFC power generating systems as basic unit of large capacity MCFC power plant. The electrical efficiency of this system is expected to be more than 60% (LHV).
