Abstract
Probe car system consists of probe cars,a center and control cars. The probe car is the vehicle equipped with sensors,GPS and communication devices. The probe car collect the road traffic information and send it to the center of the system. The center calculates the optimal velocity of each vehicle from the information and deliver the optimal velocity information to control cars.Control car control the velocity as close to the optimal velocity. In this study, the effect of the probe car system for solving traffic jam is discussed by the simulation. The simulation model is based on cellular automata model and velocity control model of actual traffic data. The vehicle movement follows the stochastic velocity model.Traffic flow on one-lane straight road is considered as an example. The results showed that use of the present system enables free traffic state at higher traffic density and that, however, the effect of the present system depends on the density of the probe cars.
