Abstract

Gears that can be used in a difficult place to be lubrication are required. For example, it is such as aerospace equipment. If it is difficult to use lubricant, such as plating gear, solid lubricant film, and plastic gears are used. However there have disadvantage of cost, corrosion resistance, cooling, and durability. In this study, we applied plasma carburized to Ti-6Al-4V gear. Then we evaluated for tribological properties in unlubricated condition of the gears. The test conditions in the transmitted torque is 15Nm, the rotation speed is 20rpm and 80rpm. Test conditions until the total rotation number 20000 cycles. The average transmission efficiency was 96.6% under the unlubricated state (20rpm) and 95.2% (80rpm). As a result of the experiments, since transmission efficiency unlubricated had been high, it was found that effective to perform plasma carburized Ti-6Al-4V gears.
