Abstract
To fix instrument appropriately to vertebral body, it is necessary to predict structural changes of cancellous bone due to remodeling in bone and instrument system. In this study, three-dimensional simulation of trabecular surface remodeling in vertebral body was performed to investigate the structual changes of cancellous bone at bone-screw interface. Corresponding to pull-out loading applied to the screw, bone formed at the compressive side of the screw thread and resorbed at the tensile side. At a distance of the screw, orthogonal trabecular structure emerged. As a result, apparent stiffness against pull-out loading increased by remodeling.
