Abstract
In this study, a neural network is applied to an optimization problem of material compositions for an infinite functionally graded plate due to axisymmetric heat supply. Using analytical procedure of a laminated plate model, the analytical solution for FGM plate is derived approximately. As the optimization problem of minimizing the thermal stress distribution, the numerical calculations are carried out making use of neural network, and the optimum material composition is determined at arbitrary heat area and transfer coefficient. Furthermore, the results obtained by neural network and ordinary non-linear programming method are compared.
