Abstract
It is widely accepted that DEM (Discrete Element Mehod) simulation reproduct flow phenomena in fluidized beds well. This method inherently has limitation to apply to real large scale systems. To reduce computational load, a numerical model using similarity is proposed in which the motion of a large number of small particles is simulated by a small number of large model particles. This study aims to give a criterion for the limitation on the diameter of model particles. Limitation on diameter of model particle is investigated using particle convective energy and particle displacement.
