Abstract
Biorefinery technology has received much attention as an environmentally friendly novel technological concept. The term biorefinery was coined in the U.S. to imply the production of chemicals and energy from renewable biomass. The U.S. has identified this as a national scientific strategy aimed at replacing the oil-based refinery. The expected technical innovation of bioprocesses is envisioned as the industrial revolution of the 21^<st> century. The key to the realization of biorefinery is advancement in post-genomic biotechnologies. With post genome technology, genomic information is used to "drastically improve", at the gene level, bioprocess microbial cells, in order to design a bioprocess with ultimate efficiency.
