Abstract
The gas transport in respiration is performed in pulmonary airways that is air passage. Minute details relating to the characteristics of flow in pulmonary airways are less well understood due to its complex shapes. The purpose of this study is to understand mechanism of the gas transport by observing the behavior in oscillatory flow through a model human pulmonary airways. A model pulmonary airways with three generations of symmetrical bifurcations based on the Weibel model have been fabricated using 3D modeling machine. Velocities in airway models of 2D and 3D bifurcation were measured by laser-doppler velocimeter. In this study, working fluid was used 50% glycerin solution, and Reynolds number at the 0-th generations tube ranged from0 to 2200 and Womersley number was 2.83.
