Internet Collaborative Product Development Project

Abstract

This paper describes internet collaboration of 3D-CAD design and manufacturing for product development. Experiences in product development and design education in the past are firstly explained. Secondly, the internet design collaboration between an industry and the university using a limited server is introduced. Following the MOT cooperation project of industries-universities product development in 2003, two product development projects had been carried out in 2004. The projects are (1) small-sized electric tricycle gently to elderly drivers and (2) aircraft for disaster information system. Multi-stations, multi-media, and internet remote collaboration design is the target of our project. This paper reports the examples of the product development using such techniques.
