Abstract
Three-Way Catalyst (TWC) is necessary equipment for an exhaust gas purfication of a gasoline engine. A Cerium Oxides (Ceria) is contained as a co-catalyst in TWC, and its ability of an oxygen storage and release is well known. Therefore, APR control system which focus on the oxygen storage and release effects is increasingly employed in the optimization of an automotive catalyst converter system. To obtain much higher purfication at a transient state, AFR control strategy based on the chemical reaction in TWC is required. As a first step, the simplified reaction scheme in TWC was investigated by simulation and experiment, and good results were obtained.
