Abstract
This paper describes the development of the direct drive motor (DD motor) without a reduction gear for the rotary motion of machine tools. We investigate a novel DD motor from a view of total performance for machine tools, considering the feed drive performance. Especially, we estimate the influence of the loaded workpiece on the variation of inertia at the rotary axis. Moreover, we demonstrate the effect of tuning angular acceleration automatically by servo tuning function in rotary axis equipped with a direct drive motor for machine tools to improve the rotary drive performance.
