Abstract

Flow fields downstream of the mitral valve inside the simulated ventricle are analyzed using flow visualization, PTV, PIV, and LDA methods. Flow visualization method provides easy grasp of the flow field. PTV and PIV methods provide flow field information with certain degree of qualitative information. LDA method provides very accurate quantitive information such as velocity and turbulent values. The JR valve with its curved leaflet generates deflected flow resulted in rather complex flow field with number of small vortices.
