Abstract
For the purpose of electrification program of Tokaido trunk line from Tokyo to Kohzu, fifty-nine electric locomotives were imported from the UK, USA, Germany and Switzerland. In these locomotives, USA made Class ED10, ED53, EF51 (WH/BLW) and ED11, ED14 (GE) are good results for operation. Fundamental design of domestically made Class EF52 electric locomotives were guided by the Japanese Ministry of Railway and associated with four private electric and rolling stock builders. In this report, 1) Historical background of design to domestically made Class EF52 electric locomotives, 2) Outline of this domestically made electric locomotives are introduced.
