Abstract

Types of students at Japanese universities can be classified into six categories, and education and opportunities needed and desired for these students are discussed, with international and global perspectives taken into consideration. The importance of liberal arts education for science-, engineering- and technology-oriented students is also discussed, and recommendations are made for education of these students.
