Abstract
Recently, Innovations to improve thermal efficiency, to reduce exhaust gas emissions, and to utilize alternative fuels in diesel engines are necessary to prevent global warming, to save energy resources. Introduction of the latest materials and technologies for control and sensing is essential to achieve the innovations, including concepts which could not be realized previously but can be at present. The diesel engine will remain as the main power source of automobiles in the long term as they have superior efficiency, performance, and cost. Final goal of this study is to reduce soot for diesel engine by using biomass-based alcohol fuels. As the first step, the experiments have been carried out to reduce soot reduction for a small sized DI Diesel engine by using alcohol blend fuels.
