Abstract
In late years the alcohol of biomass production is possible attracts attention as an oil alternative fuel. However, the use for a diesel engine is difficult in a simple substance because the alcohol has low cetane value. Therefore, as the first step of this study, experiments have been carried out to examine the influence of alcohol addition fuels on combustion characteristics and combustion products m a small diesel engine. The fuels used in this study are blended fuels of light oil and the alcohol (ethanol, propanol and butanol). The main conclusions are as follows; 1) It is possible to reduction of the NO_x emission by using alcohol addition fuels than that of light oil at any engine load conditions. 2) The HC emission of alcohol addition fuels under the low engine load is bigger than that of light oil.
