Abstract
In this study, we explore the possibility to realize the distance measurements using three-dimensional (3D) images. The super multi-view head-up display was used for the distance measurements. The super multi-view display technique was originally developed to solve the vergence-accommodation conflict that causes the visual fatigue during the observation of 3D images. The super multi-view display also provides very smooth motion parallax, because the pitch of viewpoints is smaller than the pupil diameter of eyes. The smooth motion parallax is important for superimposing 3D images on real objects and for the long-distance depth perception. The results of the distance measurements are shown, which supports the possibility of the distance measurements using 3D images.
