Abstract
This paper deals with a new method of micro-welding of glass plates by YAG laser beam. The micro-welding technology is required for precision assembles of micro components for optical transmission devices, LCD plate, and so on. In the conventional jointing method of glass materials, glass components are bonded to glass plates by bonding agent which might melt at higher temperature. In our proposed method, a pair of glass plates was overlapped, in which the absorbent was painted on the welding area of glass surface. The YAG laser beam was absorbed only in the painted area. Therefore only the interface between two plates was welded and clean surface was obtained. In this paper a feasibility of the new developed welding method was studied. In the experiments, glass slides were welded by YAG laser beam. The welding point was observed and welding strength was measured.
