Abstract
As turning parameter optimization is highly constrained and nonlinear, it is necessary to investigate the suitable penalty strategy in such case. In this work, parameters for single pass turning operation are optimized. Here unit production cost is the objective function and limits of the cutting force, power, surface finish, stability condition, tool-chip interface temperature and available rotational speed in the machine tool are the constraints. The optimum cutting parameters and constraints values obtained by two different approaches: GA with SOAP and GA without SOAP are investigated. The result shows that GA with SOAP performs better than the GA without SOAP. The feasible ratios of the solutions based on different constraints at different generation are also discussed in this paper.
