Abstract
In this paper, we consider a plastic limit design problem of truss structures whose objective is to minimize the number of accepted bars. We formulate it as a MIP (Mixed Integer Programming) problem. We also conduct numerical experiments to examine the presented MIP formulation. Test instances generated from a given ground structure are exactly solved by GLPK (GNU Linear Programming Kit), which is one of well-known open source softwares solving MIP and LP (Linear Programming) problems. We report the results on the test instances which show different solutions from ones obtained by solving a typical truss design problem of minimizing the total volume.
