Abstract
In this study, the Frictional Stir Burnishing (FSB) process is applied to the cylindrical bar of 0.45%C steel. The FSB is a process where the burnishing tool rotates at high revolution speed. Then the thin surface layer is rubbed and stirred with a temperature elevation and reduction. By the FSB process for 0.45%C steel on double helical paths, both high hardness and compressive residual stress are achieved. However, when the FSB process using sphere tip tool is applied, the surface roughness becomes large (13μmRa). Therefore, the FSB process using a flat tip tool is applied. As the result, both high hardness and compressive residual stress are achieved and the surface roughness becomes small (2.5μmRa).
