Abstract
In this study, a new evaluation index to estimate the machining error in ball end milling is proposed which has been developed under the geometric analysis and the machining experiments. The new experimental method that can be carried out in any tool orientations has presented. And the relationship between the tool orientation and the machining error was clarified. The cutting force is measured and its results is investigated considering with the geometric analysis. It is possible that the machining error is estimated by the cutting area at the point of surface generation based on the geometric analysis.
